A face + A back. Highest surface quality on both sides for decorative and high-end applications.
AB
AB Grade
A face + B back. Premium front with a good reverse side for visible one-side applications and cabinetry.
BC
BC Grade
B face + C back. A good working face with a rougher reverse side and a common choice for construction shutterply.
CC
CC Grade
C face + C back. Economy surfaces on both sides for budget construction, covered work and temporary use.

Understanding shutterply
Know what the grade letters mean.
Shutterply grades describe the quality of the plywood veneer surfaces. The first letter represents the better face side and the second letter represents the back side.
AA · A Face + A Back
Highest surface quality on both sides, with smooth clean faces and minimal defects.
Typical use: decorative and high-end applications.
AB · A Face + B Back
Premium front with a good reverse side. Minor variations may be present on the B face.
Typical use: cabinetry and visible one-side applications.
BC · B Face + C Back
Good working face with a rougher economy reverse side.
Typical use: common construction shutterply applications.
CC · C Face + C Back
Economy surfaces on both sides. Knots, patches, splits and defects may be present.
Typical use: budget construction and temporary use.
Important: Grade primarily describes surface appearance and permitted defects. Thickness, number of plies and glue quality are factors that determine structural performance. A higher surface grade does not automatically mean greater structural strength.

The grade indicates surface appearance rather than structural performance. AA offers the highest surface quality on both faces; AB has a premium front; BC is a common working-face construction grade; CC is an economy grade. Thickness, ply count and glue quality should also be considered for structural performance.
